The Sacred Toad, known in ancient tradition as a divine messenger of transformation, carries a wisdom that reminds us of our infinite nature. Its medicine is revered for guiding seekers into profound states of unity, moments where the boundaries of self dissolve, and only pure awareness remains.

This medicine comes from the venom of the Sonoran Desert Toad (Incilius alvarius), also known as the Colorado River Toad, which secretes a powerful compound called 5-MeO-DMT. For millennia, indigenous cultures of the Sonoran region have worked with this sacred ally in ceremony, honoring its ability to open doorways to the eternal.

Physical Preparation

Though less physically demanding than other medicines, your body still needs to be rested and calm.

Hydrate well in the days leading up to ceremony
Eat light, clean meals - avoid heavy or processed food 24 hours before
Get restful sleep the night before your session
Avoid alcohol and recreational substances for at least 48 hours prior
On the day: light breakfast or fasting as recommended by your facilitator

4 Weeks Before

Complete your application and comprehensive health & psychological screening. This medicine requires honesty about mental health history.

1-2 Weeks Before

Begin meditation, breathwork, or contemplative practice. Cultivate presence and willingness to surrender completely.

2-3 Days Before

Set your intention clearly. Stop all alcohol and substances. Prioritize rest, quiet reflection, and inner stillness.

Day of Ceremony

Light breakfast or fast as recommended. Arrive calm, centered, and open. Wear comfortable clothing. Bring trust and surrender.

Critical: Health Screening & Contraindications

A thorough health and psychological screening is absolutely mandatory before any Sacred Toad ceremony. This is a powerful medicine that demands respect and rigorous safety protocols. During your consultation, we review your complete medical history, psychiatric history, current medications, and readiness for ego dissolution.

Sacred Toad is NOT appropriate for individuals with: active psychosis, schizophrenia, severe bipolar disorder (unless stable and approved by a psychiatrist), cardiovascular conditions (heart disease, high blood pressure, recent heart surgery), seizure disorders or epilepsy, those on lithium, MAOIs, or SSRIs (dangerous interactions), anyone who is pregnant or breastfeeding, individuals in acute mental health crisis, a personal or family history of severe mental illness that has not been discussed and cleared in advance, or anyone with severe trauma that has not been processed with professional support. This list is not exhaustive—your screening will address your unique situation.

For some, the feeling of letting go completely can feel unfamiliar or even challenging. This is why every Sacred Toad ceremony is guided with care by experienced facilitators, ensuring that participants are supported through the process of surrender and safe return. We approach this process with the utmost care, compassion, and honesty. If Sacred Toad is not appropriate for you at this time, we will tell you clearly and, where possible, suggest alternative paths that may serve your healing journey.
