What is Kambo?

Kambo is a sacred medicine derived from the secretion of the Giant Monkey Frog (Phyllomedusa bicolor), a vibrant green tree frog native to the Amazon rainforest. For thousands of years, indigenous tribes of the Amazon, including the Matsés, Katukina, Yawanawá, and Kaxinawá, have used this powerful medicine in ceremony to cleanse the body, sharpen the mind, and restore balance.

The secretion is collected humanely from the frog without harm, honoring the sacred relationship between the people and the forest. When applied to small burns on the skin, Kambo enters the lymphatic system and initiates a profound purging process, clearing physical, emotional, and energetic blockages that no longer serve.

Indigenous traditions speak of Kambo as a medicine that removes panema, a concept describing dense, stagnant energy, bad luck, or spiritual heaviness that clouds one's path. Through the intensity of the purge, participants often experience clarity, renewed vitality, and a sense of lightness that can last for weeks or months.

"Kambo doesn't just cleanse the body, it clears the fog from your spirit and sharpens your connection to what truly matters."

At Plant Medicine Thailand, we honor the traditional roots of Kambo while creating a safe, supportive container for Westerners to experience this medicine with reverence and care. Our facilitators are trained in traditional application methods and work closely with participants to ensure readiness, safety, and integration.
